Discrimination And The Death Penalty Essays - Capital Punishment

Separation And The Death Penalty Essays - Capital Punishment Separation And The Death Penalty Segregation and the Death Penalty By Katie Matthews Twenty years have past since this court pronounced that capital punishment must be forced decently, and with sensible consistency, or not in the least, and, regardless of the exertion of the states and courts to devise legitimate equations and procedural guidelines to address this overwhelming difficulty, capital punishment stays full of intervention, separation, inclination and misstep. Equity Harry Blackmun, Feb. 22, 1994. The death penalty is one of the most disputable subjects, in American culture. Defenders of capital punishment trust it is justiceretribution for the wrongdoings submitted. The explanation underlining Americans' staggering help of executions is typically retribution. We accept that most genuine violations merit the most genuine discipline, as we review the announcement from the Old Testament, tit for tat, a tooth for a tooth, guideline. At the point when we find out about a killer, once in a while would we like to comprehend what drove him to kill; all the more regularly, we wish to slaughter him. It is hard to comprehend that the wrath we feel toward a killer, which drives us to support execution, is indistinguishable from the desire for vengeance the killer feels for what he accepts to be the loathsome treacheries throughout his life. Our longing to tame the core of the killer is very constrained. We feel as dangerous toward them as they do toward those they have murdered. We wish either to slaughter or torment them. This makes a killer, in the event that he is detained, significantly progressively deadly. Similarly as the killer's homicide achieves n othing, so too capital punishment has not at all diminished homicide. The legal framework was made in order to provide equity for all individuals. In spite of the fact that developments, for example, Civil Rights and Black Power have occurred to guarantee equity for all, separation despite everything exists in our legal framework. The death penalty is applied in an uncalled for, discretionary and biased way. For whatever length of time that it stays a piece of our reformatory framework, it will be utilized excessively against poor people, racial minorities, and the individuals who had gotten insufficient legitimate portrayal. The accompanying article will cover how bigotry is applied in capital punishment; the methods for circumspection that the appointed authorities and jury use; and how the poor are victimized because of their absence of legitimate gathering. Significantly under the most advanced capital punishment rules, race keeps on assuming a significant job in figuring out who will live and who will kick the bucket. Equity Harry Blackmun All through American history, capital punishment has fallen excessively on racial minorities. From 1930, the main year for which measurements are promptly accessible from the Bureau of Justice Statistics, to 1967, 3,859 people were executed under common ward in the United States. During this time of almost 50 years, over half (54%) of those executed were dark, 45 percent were white, and the staying one percent were individuals from other racial gatherings (see fig. 1). Somewhere in the range of 1930 and 1976 almost 90% of those executed for the wrongdoing of assault in this nation were African-Americans . Somewhere in the range of 1930 and 1996, 4220 detainees were executed in the U.S.; the greater part (53%) were dark . Right now, about half of those on the countries demise lines are from minority populaces speaking to 20% of the nation's populace. In 1972, the U.S. Incomparable Court upset existing capital punishment rules to some degree due to the threat that those being chosen to kick the bucket were picked out of racial preference. Lawmaking bodies embraced the demise condemning methods that should take out the impact of race from the passing condemning procedure. That was one of the grounds on which the Supreme Court managed capital punishment illegal in Furman. Be that as it may, proof of racial segregation in the utilization of the death penalty proceeds. About 40% of those executed since 1976 have been dark, despite the fact that blacks es tablish just 12% of the populace. Also, in pretty much every capital punishment case, the race of the casualties is white (see fig. 2). A year ago alone, 89% of the capital punishments completed included white casualties, despite the fact that half of the murders in America have been dark casualties . Of the considerable number of executions that have happened since capital punishment was reestablished in 1976, just one has included a white

Case Study Management Services For People With Mental Illness

The strengths based perspective is as well established concept in case management services for people with mental illness (Saleeby, 1996). Many service agencies have procedures and policies which operate under the strengths based perspective or concept. The strengths based model intends to find the client’s strengths and resources in order to empower them to make improvements in their own life. It is at the core of a social workers code of ethics and values. Throughout this paper I will explore the strengths perspective and how it works within the assessment process and why it is important. I will also discuss how the strengths based model is limited with in the diagnostic process. I take the stand that the strengths based model is†¦show more content†¦A diagnosis is often given after about an hour is spent with the client during an intake session, obtaining information regarding their symptoms. Working from a strengths based model and then providing a DSM 5 d iagnosis almost seems somewhat hypocritical. The diagnosis comes from the presenting problems and complaints, the history of problems such as abuse, neglect, trauma, substance abuse, etc. The diagnosis comes from information regarding how one negatively impacts themselves and their environment through, anger, violence, aggression, mania, depression, and self-harm, among many other abnormalities. â€Å"The DSM 5 makes no provisions for recording the client strengths. Nikki (Yolande Cornelia) Giovanni Has Made An Enormous Impact On Afric

Nikki (Yolande Cornelia) Giovanni has made an enormous impact on African American literature. She uses her own experiences to write wonderful poetry. In the poem Nikki-Rosa, Nikki Giovanni writes the opposite about her growing up in her family. When I first read this poem, I pictured a poverty-stricken family living in a small apartment, much like the Younger family in A Raisin in the Sun. Evidently, the family is poor because they have no inside toilet and take baths in one of those/ big tubs that folk in chicago barbecue in (10-11). The family is not as concerned about poverty as they are for their love for one another, And though you're poor it isn't poverty that concerns you and though they fought a lot it isn't your father's drinking that makes any difference but only that everybody is together and you and your sister have happy birthdays and very good Christmasses (20-26) The poem reveals a good family does have its problems. I got the feeling the children in the poem loved living where they lived although their parents weren't the richest, or they didn't live in the nicest house. The children realized that there was more to life than having a pleasant house and delightful things. The children in the poem realize that family life is more important than material objects. The poem Nikki-Rosa was written based on the life of Nikki Giovanni. Nikki Giovanni's childhood was very much different that the one described in the poem. Giovanni was raised in a middle class family, although she did learn of poverty from her parents who happened to be social workers (Wiedemann 1500). Her childhood could be described as very happy (Great 178). Giovanni's world in her poetry is an extension of her real life. Often, she sees herself existing among tensions. Biographers who write about Nikki Giovanni always comment on the poverty of the family, her parent's fighting, and note her father's alcoholism, but almost never comment on the closeness of her family or the richness of a strong, supportive family (Wiedemann 1499). [I]t isn't your father's drinking that makes any difference/ but only that everybody is together (23-24). This line in the poem sums up very well the feeling of family in the home of Nikki Giovanni during her childhood. The poem is not autobiographical of Giovanni's life, but it does parallel the development of her radical conscious (Wiedemann 1500). Nikki-Rosa is a typical example of a poem by Nikki Giovanni. She writes about what she knows and what she has experienced. The poetry of Giovanni is related to issues African-Americans face on a daily basis. According to Don L. Lee, she knows the need for Black awareness, unity, and, solidarity; she has lived through it, and knows a change can be affected. (182) Nikki Giovanni's poetry contains no punctuation, symbolizing a continuous thought (Wiedemann 1499). Typically there is no form in her poetry. A wide audience has read her poems because of the simplicity of the language used and the imagery of everyday life (Wiedemann 1499). Giovanni rarely uses difficult symbols and avoids the usage of complex vocabulary to convey the meaning of her poetry, especially Nikki-Rosa (Wiedemann 1500). Barbara Wiedemann comments that Nikki-Rosa hints at the division of whites and blacks (1500). In Wiedemann's interview with Giovanni, she states that whites cannot understand the black experience, and because of the power structure in America, whites should be held accountable for the poverty experienced by the black population. Giovanni believes differences in education cause poverty, a lack of social services, and discrimination. (1500) This poem, written the day after Martin Luther King, Jr.'s death is supposed to represent a young person growing up in an impoverished family who later becomes a black activist. The Nikki in the poem is not Nikki Giovanni. However, Rosa is Rosa Parks, the same Rosa who, in 1955, refused to give up her bus seat to a white woman. Giovanni writes about these kinds of things because she herself has attended antiwar demonstrations, the Civil Rights Movement, and various riots throughout the nation. These and other events such as the assassinations of Mar tin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, and Robert Kennedy helped to radicalize Nikki Giovanni (Wiedemann 1500). Nikki Giovanni uses her knowledge of subjects

The way slaves felt essays

The way slaves felt essays Slaves felt that their masters treated them unkindly, but there was not much to do to improve their situation as a slave. For instance, two slaves were digging a deep hole for their dead master. The slaves dug the deep hole so the master could be closer to his new home. This meaning the slaves felt that their master deserved to go hell for the things he had done. Many slaves had song relating to their master. The songs were to interpret that the white men thought slaves were stupid which song shows, but at the end of the poem, it has twist showing that the master being viewed as a jackass. In addition, there was no reward for standing up to their master even if the slave could beat the master up. Since, one slave told master that he could not be beat; resulting with the master agreeing with him, but the master said he could kill him and he did. Most blacks did not feel like kissing the masters butt since they did not want to be the masters toy. The Negro stated an analogy of the coon and the dog that the dog tells the coon, he gets more food because the master kicks him. The black is trying to say that I rather starve than be the pleasurable company of the master. This shows hoe much hatred they had towards their master. In addition, the evidence shows that he did not car about the slaves, since one time the master did not east a pig being that he thought it was poisoned. The master thinking that the food is spoiled, he still thought it was suitable for the slaves. Imagine the slaves having to kill a pig and saying it had a disease (not really) thus, the only reason they got the good meat was the master thought it was spoiled. For the most part slaves disliked their cruel punishment of their master. Negros came up with another song stating, How they skin the animal and be gives just the skin, bake the bread and be given the crumbs." The slaves are saying they felt unappreciated and not given sympathy, nor a reward for all t...

Organisational Culture and Change Management Research Paper

Organisational Culture and Change Management - Research Paper Example The above changes are dealt in with a special focus on the impacts of the same on employees and intervention procedures enabled by the business managers. Organisational Culture and Change Management General Understanding Organisational culture is generally held to be a system of beliefs or values reflected by the employees, staffs, and managers related to a concern that in turn contributes in distinctively separating it from other concerns in the related or other industries. Seven parameters are studies that contribute to the development of such distinct organizational cultures in different organizations. Firstly the culture sets of an organization are dominated by the attribute of risk-taking or the parameter of creativity and innovation ingrained in the employees. Secondly, the behavioral attributes of the people pertaining to the study of an event in a precise or detailed fashion also amount to the development of organizational culture in the concern. Thirdly the cultural paramete rs of an organization are also developed depending on the management styles of whether to study the processes to achieve a desired set of outcomes or to be focused on observing the outcome only. Fourthly again the organizational culture also depends on the degree to which the management body of the concern endeavors to understand the effects of the outcome gained on the people or the human resources of the specific concern. Fifthly the development of the organizational culture also earns relation to the degree of patronage rendered in the cultivation of effective teams. Sixthly organizational culture is also ruled by the degree of aggressiveness or passiveness involved in the pursuit of organizational conducts. Finally in the seventh case organizational culture also earns relation to the fact in whether the concern focuses on stability or whether it focuses on gaining significant growth (Roodt, Odendaal and Robbins, 2009, p.424). The introduction and management of organizational cha nge in a specific cultural context are generally dealt into two essential types. The first type relates that change factor within organizations is a spontaneous or continuous process such that the managers need to focus on planning beforehand to help enable the effective implementation of the process thereby adopted. However, the first thought failed to hold good owing to the changing circumstances in the external organizational environment that in turn required the organization to rightly welcome an emerging technological transition or transformation. New changes in the technological environment of the concern stand as an emergent process in contrast to the pre-planned environment. Adaptation to emerging technological changes helps the organization to stand the test of times and render effective customer and market-driven services.

Advantages Of Diversity In The Workplace

Advantages Of Diversity In The Workplace Diversity comes form the word diverse. Diverse means made up of different or distinct characteristics, qualities or elements. Diversity means having a distinct quality or characteristic. Diversity in the workplace refers to qualities that are different from our own. It can mean that differences that people of different races, religion, and gender, age, physical ability or culture. Why value diversity? In the time we live in there are large demographics of people from all over the world they all need jobs so any way you look at it you will still need to hire people of a different race/culture then yourself. This means that diversity in the workplace will still occur naturally as the world is now a global village. Most multinational corporations have projects or subsidiaries in different countries and they hire the locals of that countries to work with there own people. Having a diverse workplace also is a good competitive advantage. These new cultures and races will help a company when new innovations and ideas are needed. If everyone in a company is of the same race/culture/background nothing will be different nor will ideas be new as everyone will have similar thoughts/ideas but if you put a person of a different minority in the mix it is guaranteed that something innovative will happen. Another advantage is that when marketing to a new people it is advised to select a person form that minority to help you as they know what works and what doesnt. A study in 1992 showed that diverse ethnic groups produced more effective solutions than groups with a single ethnicity. Innovation provides the seeds for economic growth, and for that innovation to happen depends as much on collective difference as on aggregate ability. If people think alike then no matter how smart they are, they are most likely will get stuck at the same locally optimal solutions. Finding new and better solutions, innovating, requires thinking differently. Thats why diversity powers innovation. -Scott E. Page, Professor, University of Michigan There is no better fertile ground for innovation than a diversity of experience. And that diversity of experience arises from a difference of cultures, ethnicities, and life backgrounds. A successful scientific endeavor is one that attracts a diversity of experience, draws upon the breadth and depth of that experience, and cultivates those differences, acknowledging the creativity they spark. Dr. Joseph M. DeSimone The importance of diversity in the workplace/Advantages In the workplace, valuing diversity means creating a workplace that respects and includes differences, recognizing the unique contributions that individuals with many types of differences can make, and creating a work environment that maximizes the potential of all employees. Christy Rakoczy, Why is diversity important in the workplace. Diversity in the work place is very important as it brings people of different races, religion, and culture together in an environment in which they are all trying to gain an objective. Much like in regular society, diversity in the work place has many benefits and gain toward the greater good. In a diverse work place there are many nationalities and races which when put together can bring about many new ideas and innovations in to the market and the global economy. Diversity helps in making a certain product better as more diverse people work together in order for the product to succeed. (For a product to be a real success there must be diversity, not only in the product itself, but also in the workforce and marketing of it.) This therefore tells us that even the workforce and marketing of a product needs to be diverse in order for it to be affective in gaining worldwide sale and growth. The way that the workforce being diverse directly helps in making a product successful is that diverse people who helped in the manufacturing or marketing of the product are people from other cultures, races or gender. They see things differently if a company hires the same type of people who have the same type of experience and education and dont know much about diversity will all be most likely similar. If u put in a diverse workforce you are more likely see differences which are good and each individual has his or her own way of seeing something. This is better that having a group of individuals with the same ideas or taste. Most companies nowadays hire a diverse workforce for this reason. They want to see a change in products, and ideas. This is why diverse companies that hire from around the world regardless of anything have better ideas and innovations as there is a group of people who are very different form one another working together. Young people nowadays are given jobs in higher parts of organizations because their contributions to companies are invaluable. Diversity benefits everyone in all aspects of the job the employee, company, colleagues, society in general. There is no reason why any business shouldnt have a diverse workforce. Now in the 21st century everything is going to be diverse countries in general have big populations of other races and it brings about change and social acceptance. Businesses will have to be diverse in order to survive this time that we live in. Drawbacks to diversity There a few drawbacks to having a diverse workplace such as reversed discrimination which means that professional workers are discriminated against because the employer wants to have minorities in the company so more professional workers are not hired as much. People with significantly different backgrounds might have cultural or other barriers to co-work efficiently such as having trouble communicating. Some people argue that diversity management programs nowadays are run in order to achieve a better reputation or financial goals, forsaking the basic aim of social fairness in all aspects of life. These companies are just incorporating diversity for their benefit without the mind set of hiring people of all differences for equality. Another challenge is miscommunication as two different individuals have different ways to perceive a message. Just because two people work together doesnt mean that they will both understand the same things. It is the responsibility of the employer to makes sure everything said is understood and is clear. Having a diverse workplace means people form all walks of life are working so everyone has his/her way of dealing or perceiving ideas and interpreting them. Another major challenge is cultural bias. Just because a company is working with a diverse workplace doesnt mean that there isnt any bias. Employers can and might see an ethnicity as being better then another. A company might hire diverse workers but still prefer to work with their own kind. This is a major problem as people are all different and looking at one kind of person and discriminating against them is unprofessional and unethical as everyone has the right to be treated equal. Having negative thoughts of individuals is an obstacle towards anything how can a company be productive is each employee thinks negative of one another. A company is only as good as how well their employees work together to achieve a specific goal that benefits all of them. What is the Glass Ceiling? It is a term used to describe the limitations for a gender/minority in reaching great heights while working for a company. This is due to discrimination, sexism, and racism towards females or minorities in the workplace. Why is there a Glass Ceiling? There is a glass ceiling because it is what the public as a whole think. Most people think that in a business the white male is the better option to hire and trust people then look down upon other minorities thinking they are all faulty when it comes to work. This also goes for women as people think that women should stay at home and look after the children. David R. Hekman and his colleagues found that customers prefer white male employees, which is why such workers may continue to earn 25 percent more than equally-well performing women and minorities. Hekman et al. (2009) this shows us that even customers have a preference to white males even though the women and minorities perform similarly in terms of skills/manners. It is also why most high ranking jobs in companies are taken up by white males History of diversity The first early signs of diversity in the workplace began in the 1960s-1970. The United States started to incorporate diversity. In 1961 President John F. Kennedy established the Presidents Committee on Equal Employment Opportunity which had the vision of ending racial discrimination by the government. The next year President Johnson signed an executive order to promote equal employment opportunity. This was an important turning point, because it prohibited the consideration of race, creed, color or national origin to acting on the principle of fairness. Legal laws on diversity did not help as people just continued with discriminating the diverse. Even though human resources were successful in hiring and managing diversity it wasnt the case as other employees in the work place didnt quite get on with the new more diverse workplace. Moreover, employers found that simply hiring a more diverse workforce did not bring some of the expected benefits. The management had to be committed to the new ideas if they ever wanted to see the benefits of diversity. During the 1980s, it was recognised that not only did the new laws and new regulation but diversity had to be taken seriously as a new type of business attribute. Training at the time focused on employee attitudes, as businesses and government agencies tried to raise awareness of and increase employee sensitivity to diversity issues. (Mauricio Velasquez). Case Studies Managing Diversity at IBM Nederland (The Netherlands) 05-02-2005 A Vision on Managing Diversity IBM the multinational IT-company thinks that the only way that they can maintain their advantage over other companies is through their diverse workplace by having their employees innovations and differences help in their work. The company considers workforce diversity as the bridge between the workplace and the marketplace. In 1953, the CEO at that time published IBMs first equal opportunity policy letter. This letter stated simply that IBM will hire people based on their ability, regardless of race, color or creed. IBMs CEOs all defended this idea and reinforced that policy throughout the years. Since then, equal opportunity at IBM has been an evolutionary journey that underscores the companys commitment to an inclusive work environment where peoples ideas and contributions are welcome regardless of where they come from, what they look like or what personal beliefs they hold. To show the importance of workforce diversity in IBMs corporation, their worldwide headquarters employs a Vice President of Global Workforce Diversity. This official generates the policies on managing diversity. Their regional headquarters employ diversity managers to help in the managing and hiring of a diverse workplace they also translate the global policies on managing diversity into regional spearheads. Next, the executive management teams of every subsidiary formulate local actions in order to increase and to make full use of workforce diversity in that specific IBM establishment. IBM 05-02-2005. Louise OGrady, Accommodating an Employee with a Disability 29-06-2004 28 year old Louise OGrady is an administrative assistant with Access Ability. She was born with cerebral palsy which constrains her in her mobility. Before starting her job with the company she had an environmental audit carried out. The person with the disability is an expert on their own needs and that is why their input is crucial. Every disability is different everyone has different needs and requirements must be tailor-made to meet specific needs. She explains. Many employers fail to understand that when dealing with a person with a disability for the first time, is that it is not the disability that is the problem, it is the environment. According to Louise, sometimes all it takes is a software package like a voice recognition system to overcome the constraints faced by a person with a disability in the workplace. She said. In the case of Louise OGrady, She has a disability therefore if she is hired the company she will be working for has tried to incorporate a diverse workplace. Companies that hire people with a disability have to take the initiative to help them out. For Louise she needed special help like making the workplace more accessible to her disability. This is a good example of a company that is trying to add diversity to their workforce. People with a disability can work just as well as people with out a disability and are equally capable of becoming successful. They should be given an equal chance to be hired and all employers must be able to help them in terms of making facilities accessible and giving them a chance to prove them selves. Managing a diverse workplace The key to successfully manage a diverse workplace is to increase ones awareness for differences in people of all walks of life such as gender, age, race, religion, physical ability or culture. One good way to manage anyone is to have empathy. You have to work together you have to feel what your employee feels in order to be a good manager. Especially with a diverse workplace empathy is very important. Another way is to learn what the employee wants from their job at the company and help them achieve it. Supporting the employee also is a good method it brings the employees closer to their employer. Be lenient as different employees work differently especially if from a diverse background they need their freedom to work the way do need to. Dont force employees to work in the same way as each other as everyone is different. People with a disability need more support and supervision sometimes the company is not disability friendly and may need to incorporate some things to help a disabl ed employee. Strategies Some good strategies that are being used and incorporated in managing a diverse workplace Trying to find out what employees aspirations are and helping by supporting their goals. Giving highly talented employees chances in the company to expose themselves to leaders and successful talents and supporting them. Creating teams of people with different skills and talents and encouraging synergy. Being more tolerant of people from all aspects of life. And trying to deal with them positively. Delegating responsibility fairly to all employees. Communicate and support intolerance of inappropriate and disrespectful behaviour. Evaluating the performance of employees objectively but fairly without any discrimination. Consider each individuals need when enforcing company policies and guidelines and by being tolerant to there opinions and differences. Conclusion In conclusion Diversity is a great thing. Its the variety of people in all aspects racially, mentally, physically and spiritually. Having a diverse workplace is an advantage to any company. It is what makes a company successful. All multinational and successful companies have a diverse workplace. New ideas and innovations are the just some of the things that arrive from having a diverse workplace. Having many different people form all aspects make for a good advancement for any company. Managing a diverse workplace is just as difficult as managing a workplace with the same kind of individuals therefore you can only gain if you practise having a diverse workplace.

Home Schooling: Not For Everyone Essay -- Argumentative Persuasive Arg

Home Schooling: Not For Everyone Home schooling is when a child is instructed outside of the public school system in a place such as the home. In the year 2002, 850,000 students were home schooled in the United States out of about 50,200,000 that were attending school at that time (Home Schooling Statistics, 1). The numbers of students being home schooled are expected to grow even more in the future (1). Home schooling laws vary from state to state. In New Jersey the home schooling laws state that children between the ages of 6 and 16 can be home schooled (Home Schooling in the United States A Legal Analysis, 1). There is no requirement for the number of days a student must attend if they are home schooled, unlike the public schools who have to have 180 days of school each year (1). The few required subjects that must be taught are history of the United States, civics, physical education, health, geography, history of New Jersey, citizenship and safety (1). Any of these subjects can be omitted fro m the curriculum if they interfere with religious or moral beliefs of the family (1). Perhaps the most influential reason for why a parent would take their child out of public education is their fear for the quality of their childà °s education. Due to teacher unions and contracts after several years of teaching a teacher receives tenure. At that time it is hard for a teacher to be fired despite their teaching qualifications and abilities. Home schooling a child would assure the parents that their child is receiving a proper education up to their standards. By home schooling their children the parents can control the education by selecting subject courses that follow their own curriculum. The reso... ... any prior teaching certification or experience, which means they may not be able to provide their child with an adequate education. Although home schooling may benefit some students, it is clearly not right for every student. Home schooling has its advantages and disadvantages and its success is not always guaranteed. In some respects home schooling may be cost efficient, but is it really worth it especially since it hampers a child's socialization process. Ww1 Essay

WORLD WAR 1 The cause of World War 1 was not only of the terrorist group, The Black Hand Gang, kill the Archduke of the Austro Hungarian Empire, Franz Ferdinand. There were many causes of the Great War, like Militarism, Imperialism and Nationalism. This essay is going to be based on the cause of the Black Hand Gang. The Black Hand Gang was lead by Dragutin Dimitrijevic. The Black Hand objectives were Bosnia-Herzegovina independence from Austro-Hungary. They feared a war with Austro-Hungary and they thought that the assassination will be successful.Gavrilo Princip’s decision to shoot The Archduke Franz Ferdinand change the world because that shot started WW1, the Austro-Hungary Empire split, resulted in some nations gaining their independence and it led to the deaths of 7 million people. It changes the world because days after that shot, WW1 begins and millions of deaths happened. There had been other assassinations in the past years but after weeks it became apparent that the assassination of Ferdinand was different. July 23, Austro Hungary gave Serbia an ultimatum, a set of final conditions that must be accepted to avoid the consequences like war.The ultimatum demanded that the Austro Hungarian officials enter to Serbia to investigate the assassination of the Archduke, Serbia had 48 hours to accept that or they will face war. By august the major European powers were at war with each other. Serbia was not ready for war with Austro Hungary but they didn’t want to accept the ultimatum. By the time it was over it were the war that had involved most nations of the world and the largest war that the world had ever seen. WW1 was the reason of millions of deaths such as soldiers and civilians. The countries that had more deaths in the war were Germany with approximately 1,773,700 then Russia with approximately 1,700,000 deaths and France with approximately 1,357,800 deaths soldiers. The U. S. send about 4,355,000 soldiers and approximately 120,000 of them die in the war because of diseases or fighting or other causes. When WW1 started Germany was able to send about 3,800,000 soldiers to war. This changed the world because was the war that had more deaths in history since now. Some countries gained their independence in WW1.Let’s take Poland as an example, before the Great War most of Poland was a Russian client state and during the war they devastated since they served as battleground but they gain their independence upon a conclusion of war. Other example, Lithuania before the war they were occupied by Russia, during the war after Russia withdraw of the WW1, Lithuania is left open for German occupation, but after the war Lithuania became independent because Russia withdraw and Germany too. This changed the world because a lot of countries are independent thanks to the WW1.The start of WW1 it obviously changed the world because the Austro Hungarian Empire split and Bosnia Herzegovina got their independence, thanks to WW1 mill ions of soldiers died fighting or because of diseases and other things, thanks to WW1 many nations gained their independence so they are no more occupied by other powerful countries. Maybe those 3 reasons are the most important on how WW1 changed the world Angelillo, G. (2007) U. S. Tobacco Industry Make Tobacco Products Illegal - 1009 Words

Make Tobacco Products Illegal Ellen Gossett Trevecca Nazarene University Abstract It can be argued that tobacco products are one of the deadliest legal drugs in the history of mankind. Most of the countries around the world are making progress to ban the sale of tobacco products and reduce smoking. Over the years, there has been a steady decline in global tobacco use; however, their needs to be steeper taxation on tobacco products, bans on smoking advertisements, incentives towards reduced health care costs for non-smokers, and tougher penalties for smoking around children. Reducing the sale and consumption of tobacco can also help the planet and make cleaner air for everyone. Make Tobacco Products Illegal It has†¦show more content†¦Use of tobacco products can be called one of the deadliest legal drugs in the history of mankind. Smoking can cause many life-threatening diseases. â€Å"Smoking is a major health problem. Tobacco use is by far the most important risk factor for most respiratory symptoms and chronic bronchitis. Active smoking has been identified as the most important single factor leading to the development of COPD. Furthermore, smoking is a major cause of disability and death.† (Lindstrom, Kotaneimi, Jonsson, Lundback, 2001). The main ingredient that is found in tobacco products that is easily addictive is nicotine. It is a stimulant type drug. Being addicted to nicotine is just as harmful as any other drug substance and your body craves it. If you just stop usage, you will even have withdrawal systems. The effects that nicotine produces on the body include, increases in heart rate, blood pressure, and addiction of the drug liking effects of tobacco usage. Nicotine has also been linked to birth defects in babies of mother’s who smoke during pregnancy. (Sofuoglu, Yoo, Hill, Mooney, 2008) Tobacco use is also harmful to those who breathe second hand smoke. Smoking can harms others just as adversely by breathing in the fumes from another’s cigarette.
